Reversi

Reversi (also known as Othello) is an online board game where you have to turn your opponent’s pieces into your colour. This online version is the same as Reversi Ravensburger, the classic board game. Every turn, one player puts a piece on the board, and this piece has to be put down on a tile so it captures another piece. In this Reversi online version, you can either play against the computer or against a friend in the multiplayer version.

How to play Reversi

Every turn, one player puts down a piece on the board. You can only play one piece per round. This piece then has to be placed between your own piece and an opponent’s piece. This is the way to capture your opponent’s piece, by trapping it between your own pieces. Pieces can be placed horizontally, vertically or diagonally. You play until either a player surrenders or the board is full. When you are unable to put a piece down that captures your opponent’s piece, you have to pass the round.

This game is challenging, and you need to practice. Use the semi-transparent circles that show up to look at possible options. Take your time when putting down a piece. Putting down a piece may look like a good option, but it could lead to your opponent capturing even more pieces. A useful tactic is working towards the corners. When you put down a piece in the corner, it can not get captured, and you create a strong position where you can take over 2 different lines, the outside lines. It is useful to not play 2 pieces next to each other when lined up against 2 of your opponent’s pieces, as they can capture both with vertical/horizontal and diagonal lines.
