Flappy Bird
Flappy Bird is a simple but addicting skill game that gained an enormous degree of popularity in 2014. Guide the flying bird through the gaps between the green pipes without touching any surfaces and crashing down.
How do you play Flappy Bird?
The concept of this fly & dodge game is very simple. Guide the little bird through the openings between the green pipes. You’re not allowed to touch the pipes, the ceiling, or the floor. If you do, your little bird will hit its head and tumble down.
For each set of pipes you manage to pass, you’ll receive 1 point. How many points will you be able to collect before you lose your focus?
Flappy Bird Trivia
Flappy Faby
Did you know that the little yellow bird in the original Flappy Bird game has a name? The character is called Faby. The creator of the game, Dong Nguyen, originally designed the bird for a different platform game in 2012, but that other game was never made.
Less is more
Flappy Bird was inspired by Angry Birds. While in school to become a programmer, Nyugen won an internship at the Vietnamese satellite studio of Punch Entertainment, the company that developed the popular Angry Birds game app. However, Nyugen thought it would be interesting to try a more simple and hypercasual concept.
Flappy Bird gets taken offline
Nyugen temporarily took the game down in February of 2014, because he felt bad about its addictive nature and the amount of money Flappy Bird was making. At its peak, the game brought in around $50 000 per day! While you might imagine this to be any independent game developer’s dream come true, Nyugen stated that Flappy Bird’s sudden popularity became so stressful that he could no longer sleep. Taking the game down and redesigning it gave him peace of mind.
Flappy Bird phone auction
If all that money didn’t necessarily bring Nyugen happiness, that sure didn’t stop others from trying to turn a profit! After Nyugen removed the game, many people who still had the game installed on their phone attempted to sell their device through eBay - with bids going up to an outrageous $90 000! However, because such a sale would violate the auction site’s rules, the listings were canceled and removed.
When was Flappy Bird first published?
This game first appeared online on May 24, 2013, but only gained widespread popularity at the start of 2014.
Who made Flappy Bird?
This game was created by Dong Nguyen, a Vietnamese video game developer who released the game under his company name, .Gears.
